Late afternoon break from the rain
Today began at 8:30 with feeding and picking. Trust me when I say picking is a real pain when the dog yard is a sheet of ice. Vern and Misha went out to try to work on what trails we have left. I worked on puting things in ziplock bags for my drop bags for the trail . It was rainingand 45 out. I ended up driving to Wasillato get more fleece for wrist warmers, and check on Misha’s brush bows that she is having made. They will be ready tomorrow so she will have to pick them up.
I stopped and picked up a few things I needed and headed back to the kennel.
Coyote, and Storm both got a massage this morning and I wrapped Coyote’s right wrist. They look great but will still stay in and start back slowly. Coyote may be at the age she is working to hard to keep up with the team at this point. She really wants to be there and may be just to hard for her. We will watch her very carefully when she starts back to work and decide then what she should be doing. I have no doubt that Storm will be fine. She is young with no old bones. I sure understand Coyote’s aches as I was full of them yesterday also.
Mike looked good this morning. I will re-bandage him tomorrow and know more after we see it again. He doesn’t seem to have much pain with weight bearing so I think that is a good sign. I am truly amazed by these animals.
Vern has been checking to see where there is snow in the area and it sounds like there is some in Tok. We will have to see if we can get a better report and think about heading that way to train. I don’t think we will be able to do anything here for a while.
The Klondike 300 was postponed until Monday but it is questionable if they will be able to run then. The Kuskokwim 300 is also postponed. There is allot of water now on all the lakes and rivers. Just a few days ago it was -40 and to cold now there is rain and to much warm. It just doesn’t make sense but everyone says it happens every January.
If you want to follow thr race conditions you can find them on sleddogcentral.com.
I hope you all have a great evening and I will see you tomorrow.
